Life Sciences Super Cluster

An NHS-industry-academic partnership to accelerate innovation adoption in healthcare.

The Super Cluster represents a unique collaboration between industry, NHS and academia to become one of the largest, most concentrated life science clusters nationally, offering world-class facilities and associated infrastructure across its two locations at Canary Wharf and Whitechapel.

Canary Wharf, a globally-recognised business centre, already comprises over 20 million ft2 of office, retail and residential space. It has a rapidly growing life science cluster and is already home to Genomics England, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, NHS Transformation, UK Health Security Agency, Barts Health NHS Trust and the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Whitechapel is a unique proposition, being immediately adjacent to the Royal London Hospital, one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe and home to Barts Health’s new Clinical Research Facility. Access to Barts Health is access to the market. Whitechapel is also home to the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) campus centred around the Blizard Biomedical Research Building.

Across these two locations, the East London Life Sciences Super Cluster provides everything companies need to thrive.

One of the largest, most concentrated life science clusters in the UK.

Home to a fast growing, young and diverse population of over 2.5 million people from nearly 100 nations.

Barts Health NHS Trust is the largest NHS Trust in London, and the 2nd largest NHS Trust nationally, proving a secure data environment, phase I-III clinical research facility, 3 national oncology biobanks and the largest cardiovascular centre in Europe.

Queen Mary University of London ranks 14th globally for research quality.
